Nigerian Afrobeat singer Temilade Openiyi has been nominated in the Best Original Song category at the 96th Academy Awards for her contribution as a songwriter to Rihanna’s Lift Me Up, the soundtrack for Marvel’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
The 2023 Oscar nomination list was published on January 24, with the ceremony scheduled for March 12 in Los Angelos.
Tems was nominated alongside bigwigs in the industry, including Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All at Once), Michelle Williams (The Fabelmans), Colin Farrell (The Banshees of Inisherin) and others.
Lift Me was co-written by singer Rihanna and Tems, produced by Ludwig Göransson, and directed by Black Panther’s director Ryan Coogler.
In 2022, Tems won her first Grammy nomination and award in the Best Global Music Performance category with Her collaboration with Wizkid in their hit, Essence.
