Kojo Bonsu, one other pick NDC presidential nomination forms to contest Mahama

Two persons have picked presidential nomination forms of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to contest former president John Mahama in the party’s upcoming presidential primary.

The two are former Kumasi Mayor Kojo Bonsu and Ernest Kobeah who picked their forms on Wednesday afternoon at NDC Headquarters in Adabraka, Accra.

The Party’s Director of Communications, Kakra Essamuah disclosed to Mugabe Maase on Inside Politics Wednesday afternoon on Power 97.9 FM.

“Three persons have picked nomination forms to contest in the flagbearership race,” he said in Akan and explained that “Rev. William Osei picked nominations on behalf of Mr. Kojo Bonsu.”

Earlier, the 2020 campaign manager for the NDC and some regional chairpersons of the party picked presidential nomination forms on behalf of former President John Mahama.

Mr. Mahama had declared his intention to run for President in the 2024 general election on the ticket of the opposition National Democratic Congress when he met with the Minority caucus at his Cantonment office on Tuesday.

Mr Essamuah said the picking of nominations from the three aspirants was successful. All of them, he said, paid the nomination fee of GHS 30,000 each.

This the first time Mr Kobeah, a staunch member of the NDC in the UK, has joined the race.

Kobeah is a modern sewage system specialist and doubles as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of City Experts Limited Group in the UK.

But this is the second attempt of Kojo Bonsu to lead the NDC.

He believes the opposition National Democratic Congress will have a better chance of winning the 2024 elections if someone like him is chosen as the party’s flagbearer.

But Prof. Alabi who is a lead campaigner of the former president says the current economic situation demands that Mr Mahama, whose performance as a vice president and later the head of state, is allowed to lead the party.

He said the ex president’s track record in economic management is enviable and therefore he and all the regional chairmen of the party will work hard and ensure that Mahama leads the party and the continue to win the 2024 polls to “rescue Ghanaians” from Akufo-Addo’s economic quagmire.
