Jojo Wollacott makes injury return in Charlton friendly

Black Stars goalkeeper, Jojo Wollacott, returned from injury on Tuesday, February 7, in Charlton Athletic U21s friendly against Bournemouth.

The shot-stopper started the behind-closed-doors friendly as Charlton claimed a 2-1 victory behind the Cherries.

The 26-year-old has been out of action since November 2022 after suffering a finger injury prior to a league game against Burton Albion.

Wollacott, after being key in Ghana’s qualification to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, missed the showpiece after undergoing surgery.

However, the goalkeeper could soon be in action after returning in goal for Charlton’s U21s in a friendly earlier this week as he continues his recovery.

Speaking after the game, the U21s boss, Danny Senda, said: “Jojo had a really, really calming influence behind the back three. He made really good decisions and that enabled us to take control of the game with his ability to build. He pulled off a really good, point-blank save for us midway through the second half, which was a critical moment in the game.”

It is unknown when Wollacott returns to the first-team squad but following his performance in midweek, he could soon be back for the Addicks.
