I represent the promise – Tinubu rallies Nigerians after victory

President-elect of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on Nigerians to support his administration, which he describes as one of hope.

He said he represents the promise and Nigerians should support him fulfil this promise.

“I represent the promise and with your support I know that promise will be fulfilled,” the former Lagos Governor stated.

“You will and we will achieve it together.”

He was delivering his victory speech Wednesday morning after being declared winner of Saturday’s hotly-contested polls.

Bola Tinubu polled over 8.7 million votes, representing 36 percent, to be declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (Inec) Wednesday.

His closest rivals Abubakar Atiku of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) had over 6.9 million votes, representing 29 percent, and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) polled over 6.1 million votes, representing 25 percent.

Some of the major opposition parties boycotted the collation of results at the National Collation Center, citing manipulations of the results. They demanded a cancellation of the results for fresh elections to be held at some polling units.

But delivering his victory speech, 70-year-old Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) described the polls as “credible”.

“I commend INEC for running a credible election, no mater what anybody tells you it is,” he said, insisting that no arithmetic errors were made contrary to concerns by the opposition.

He maintain that even the errors detected are “immaterial” to affect the total outcome of the elections.

“We have created the biggest democracy as Nigerians and we should be proud of that.”

He lauded outgoing President Muhammadu Buhari for supporting his campaign.

“He is indeed a true patriot.”
