Bolt Kenya has suspended one of its drivers after a video of him unzipping his trousers and erotically showing his penis to a female passenger.
The footage has stirred public uproar, with many people taking to social media to share their terrible experiences.
Former governor of Kenya’s Nairobi County, Mike Sonko shared the video on X and cautioned passengers to be vigilant to avoid falling victim to unscrupulous sex predators posing as ride-hailing drivers.
In response, Bolt issued a statement, condemning the driver’s conduct, adding it does not condone such irresponsible acts. The statement went further to state that the said driver had been identified and suspended from Bolt’s platform.
“Bolt, as part of its zero tolerance to this type of behaviour, has suspended the mentioned driver from providing any further services on our platform,” the statement reads.
It expressed empathy towards the affected passenger and assured that the ride-hailing company would never compromise on the safety of its customers.
“We remain committed to promptly addressing and continuously supporting our valued clients during such difficult moments. At Bolt, the safety of our drivers and passengers remains our highest priority. We remain committed to vigilance and swift response in handling such incidents,” Bolt added.
The video that caused the driver’s suspension shows him exposing his manhood to his passenger sitting in the front passenger seat of the moving car. She became scared and questioned him about the rationale behind his indecent conduct.
The victim’s co-passenger, also a female, who was equally disgusted at the driver’s behaviour advised that they alight at the next bus stop, and they did.
