The National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the Assin North by-election, James Gakye Quayson has cast his ballot at his hometown, Assin Breku.
He went through the process successfully at the Methodist Primary school ‘A’ polling station a few minutes after 11am.
Quayson was mobbed by some excited members of the NDC and sympathizers.
Some chanted his position on the ballot paper while others chanted victory songs for him.
Quayson, a former MP, who is also contesting in this election says he is confident of winning the polls despite his hometown being the stronghold of the NPP.
Earlier, he told pressmen that despite the acts of vote buying by his opponent, he will win the election.
Meanwhile, voting is underway in all the 99 polling stations in the constituency.
The election is being contested by Charles Opoku of the NPP, Bernice Enyonam of the LPG and James Gyakye Quayson of the NDC.
Background
The election comes after the Supreme Court ordered Parliament to delete the details of Gyakye Quayson from its records.
The apex court had ruled that Quayson did not qualify to contest the 2020 elections in Assin North.
The court held that he had not renounced his Canadian citizenship before filing.
However the NDC selected him to contest the elections today.
