Calm restored at Gomoa Dominase after violent clashes; six arrested

The Ghana Police Service has restored calm at Gomoa Dominase following a violent clash that erupted during a police operation targeting illegal drug activities in the area.

The operation, which aimed to dismantle a suspected drug trafficking network, turned deadly, resulting in the death of a civilian and injuries to three police officers.

According to a police statement released on Friday, the disturbance began when officers moved in to demolish an unauthorised structure believed to be used by drug peddlers.

During the operation, the operator of a grader machine accidentally ran over a man, later identified as Razak Moro, who died on the spot.

The incident sparked outrage among the youth in the community, who attacked the grader operator. Police personnel deployed to rescue the operator came under attack and were pelted with stones and other objects, resulting in injuries to three officers.

In the aftermath, six individuals — Adams Suleman, Onukwei Ubombo, Augustine Agomgo, Michael Okyere, Zakaria Illiasu, and Rashid Mustapha — were arrested in connection with the violence. They are currently in custody and assisting with investigations.

The Ghana Police Service has assured the public that anyone found culpable will be prosecuted in accordance with the law. Authorities also called for calm and urged residents to continue cooperating with security personnel to maintain peace and order.

“We remain committed to ensuring public safety and upholding the rule of law,” the statement read.

The incident underscores the growing tensions surrounding drug enforcement operations and the urgent need for community engagement to support law enforcement efforts in combating illicit drug activities.
